Car full of Mexicans and Canadians? check. 5ft swell? check, light offshores? check. 25 degree sunny days? check.
Its rare that the holy trinity of Sun, wind and waves comes together in this country. But holy fuck when it does surfing in England is a joy. Luckily for a visiting buddy from Canada he scored Newquay almost perfect.
We hit the bay on arrival for a warmup (longboard) session after a long drive via Stonehenge- but that was rubbish, the bay not Stonehenge, that was epic but closed. The bay was pretty flat and closey outty. We heard the wind came up and went onshore, so we sat at South Fistral drinking and watching the sun go down.
South Fistral on Saturday morning was better. Lots of battling though, not much result. Watergate at high tide was beautiful and clean had a blast out there. and a sunset session at North fistral with heather and Victoria. Heavy waves, sun in my eyes, and a shitload of shortboard rippers. I saw people getting barrels. Brilliant session when I got my Rusty baord back.Dint dig Ryans. you couldnt see people on the waves because of the sun. I got some real nice drops on Ryan board, also got my ass handed to me on a plate a couple of times.
Finally another longboard session on Sunday morning at North Fistral as the tide dropped. before heading home.
all in all a top weekend, not too much boozing, didnt rate the surfers hotel too highly, but the staff were really kind and they had a Dulux dog called Rocky who kept pissing on the back wheel of my car. Saw almost everyone I know in town on Saturday aswell which was nice.
