Bank holiday weekend. What did I learn. You cant surf if you have tickets for a NOFX show. Even if the surf is cranking. Was it? i dont really want to know now.
Anyways, NOFX is a fine alternative. Wicked show. After the demise of the Astoria, we have Shepherds Bush as an alternative- it is smaller though. Didnt like the venue before but that was cause I saw the Roots there, and a Roots crowd doesnt have a clue how to move. hence all the tall fuckers got in the way. Saturday was the best contenporary punk has to offer so the crowd moved. The crowd was older than I expected. Probably something to do with the venue size. Dunno but there were a lot more kids when we saw them in Brixton.
snuff supported, they played well, kinda lost on the crowd, and myself - I love Snuff but dont really know all their huge back catalog. But glad to have seen them for once. It becamer clear - that the P.A. was less than adequate for conveying onstage banter though.
Luckily for once NOFX actually seemed to be trying to STFU and play some music. Not that teir banter isnt funny as hell though. Played so many good tunes, off the top of my head i remember in no real order:
Linoleum, the Brews, Bottles to the ground, Green Corn, Separation of Church and Skate, Bob, Whoops i OD'd, The man that i killed, Franco Unamerican. Kill all the whiteman...etc
The setlist was largely drawn from the last 2 cds, not much from before P in D.
So there you have it if youve seen them you know what to expect otherwise, go next time!
New CD 'Coaster' is top notch too!!
best lyric:
'Kudos to Paul, Fuck you Bruce...how are you supposed to rock and roll without substance abuse?'
anyways then I worked bank holiday monday and had to listen to the wretched lounge band practice downstairs. arrgh!!!!
